Policy Summary

Some important facts about your Yacht Third Party Liability Insurance are summarised below. This summary does not describe all the terms and conditions of your policy, so please take time to read the policy document to make sure you understand the cover it provides.

Your cover is valid for a calendar year. The policy will be automatically renewed annually on the existing terms and conditions unless you or the insurers give one month’s notice of cancellation or alteration prior to the annual renewal date.

Covers your legal liabilities for loss of life, personal injury, damage to another vessel or property and/or financial losses of third parties, arising out of your ownership, operation or control of your boat.

Excludes liability assumed under contract, liability arising out of any wilful act, participation in motor boat racing or speed trials, employers’ liability.

Section A 1, 2, 3, 4
Section B 6, 7, 8, 9

Includes your legal liabilities when you are using a borrowed or chartered boat.

Excess £2,500 on claims for damage to the borrowed boat.

Additional Cover 1

Includes search and rescue costs if your EPIRB is accidentally activated.

 

Additional Cover 2

Provides a security deposit if your boat is arrested due to a claim under the policy.

Maximum £100,000

Additional Cover 3

Uninsured Boater. If you or anyone onboard is injured or property is damaged by an uninsured third party vessel, this policy will respond.

 

Additional Cover 4

Includes liability towards independent contractors working on your boat.

Excludes liability towards anyone in your own paid employment.

Section B 9

Includes liability towards water-skiers, parasailors etc., being towed behind your boat, and their liabilities to others.

Those using diving equipment must be suitably qualified and licensed and equipment must be serviceable.

Includes liability for water pollution.

Excluding spillage during refuelling, and deliberate discharge of substances.

Section B 5

Includes liabilities of all persons onboard with your permission, including claims of one against another.

Excludes any claim you may have against any crew member or passenger, and excludes damage to your own property.

Includes use of your boat by another person, with your permission

 

Use of the Vessel 4

Use of your boat for charter may be included if agreed with insurers. 

 

Use of the Vessel 3

 

Claims settled under US/Canadian Law may be subject to lower limits.

About your insurers

This policy is underwritten by a group of major European Insurance Companies. The lead underwriter for your policy will be shown on your policy documents.

Jurisdiction

The contract of insurance is governed by English Law.

Cancellation right

We hope you are happy with the cover this policy provides. However, you have the right to cancel it within 14 days of receiving the policy, without giving any reasons. If you wish to exercise your right to cancel the insurance, you should return the policy schedule, marked “cancelled”, within 14 days of receipt. We will cancel your policy and return the unused portion of your premium payment – you will be charged for the number of days from the date of issue until the date we receive your notice of cancellation. If you do not exercise your right of cancellation within 14 days, you will be bound by the contractual terms for the 12 months period of insurance.

Compensation Scheme

We are informed that the Financial Services Compensation Scheme excludes all contracts of insurance for yachts and their liabilities
