Harald Baum

Harald Baum is the sole owner of PANTAENIUS Holding GmbH.

• Born 1940 in Hamburg, Germany
• Trained as a shipping agent
• Additional training as an insurance agent in the insurance department of the Hamburger-Südamerikanischen Dampfschifffahrtsgesellschaft (now known as Hamburg-Süd)
• Additional specialised insurance training with Hartley Cooper insurance brokers at Lloyd's of London and with Berner Allgemeine Versicherungs AG in the areas of transport and property insurance
• In 1963 joined H. Pantaenius, insurance broker in Hamburg, and in 1970 took over the company as sole owner
• In 1971, Pantaenius began the development of specialised insurance policies for yachts with bespoke insurance terms

Harald Baum has had a passion for sailing since his early childhood; with his Swan 44 and later Swan 48 – both named ELAN – he and his sons Daniel and Martin (Tino) are well-known figures in the cruiser/racer regatta scene and have won many victories. However, also very important to him are sailing cruises with his family, since he believes that nothing maintains strong family bonds better than sailing.

Since 1985 Harald Baum has volunteered his time in the cruiser section (Kreuzer-Abteilung, KA) of the German Sailing Federation (Deutscher Segler-Verband, DSV). From 2001 to 2005 he was vice-president of the DSV and chairman of the KA; today, he is chairman of the Club of the KA and a member of the management board of the KA.
