From Day One To Today: The Women Who've Helped To Shape Pantaenius UK
Meet the people at the helm and the faces behind 35 years of Pantaenius UK - and celebrate three long-serving team members who’ve been part of the journey from the early days.

left to right: Fiona McCracken, Deborah Prince, Leigh Huggett
As Pantaenius UK marks 35 years of service to the boating community, it’s an ideal moment to reflect on the people who have been its heart and soul. Among them are three exceptional women - Leigh Huggett, Deborah Prince and Fiona McCracken - who’s combined 98 years of experience and commitment embody the company’s long-lasting values: trust, expertise and genuine care for every client.
From a tiny office with just a handful of staff to becoming one of the UK’s leading specialist boat insurance providers, Pantaenius UK has evolved significantly. Yet, as these long-serving team members show the company’s spirit remains unchanged.
Leigh Huggett: Marketing and Business Manager - 35 Years
A Wholehearted Commitment to Clients
Leigh has been with Pantaenius UK since the very beginning, joining as one of just two people in the office when the company opened its doors in 1990. Now as Marketing and Business Manager she has seen vast change throughout her time - from paper files to digital platforms, from a limited product range to a more comprehensive range of policy offerings, and from minimal regulation to a highly governed market. But one thing has never shifted: “Our foundation has always been trust, personal service and building genuine relationships”
Many clients have been with Pantaenius UK for decades, something Leigh sees as the best measure of success: “We’re not just here to sell insurance - we’re here to support boaters with understanding and expertise.”
For Leigh, the motivation after so many years is simple:
Protecting what people love and working with a team that feels like family. That’s what keeps me coming back with the same passion I had on day one.
Deborah Prince: Executive Director - 33 Years
From Apprentice to Executive Leadership
Deborah’s Pantaenius UK story began over three decades ago, when she joined straight out of school as a 16-year-old apprentice. Now, as Executive Director, she oversees the company’s day-to-day operations, from liaising with regulatory bodies, recruitment and training to making sure the coffee never runs out! “While much has changed since I started - from just four people working manually to a global, digital operation with 28 staff - one thing remains unchanged: our commitment to doing right by our clients,” Deborah reflects. “That personal service and sense of responsibility have defined Pantaenius from the very beginning.”
Her motivation today is rooted in people:
I’m proud of the team we’ve built and excited about the next generation who will carry forward our values. It’s rewarding to watch them grow and know the company’s future is in good hands.
Fiona McCracken: Client Hub Team Leader - 30 Years
Leading with Experience and Care
Fiona’s journey with Pantaenius UK mirrors the company’s growth. From a modest child-sized desk with a prized office stapler to a state-of-the-art ‘mission control’ workspace, her evolution within the company reflects both progress and continuity.
Her role as Client Hub Team Leader involves managing policies for everything from small boats to complex superyachts - while supporting and training new staff. She also represents the company at shows and events. For Fiona, what makes Pantaenius UK stand out is direct, personal contact. “Clients don’t get lost in a phone menu, they speak to someone knowledgeable and approachable.”
“Our customer service is personal and informed,” Fiona explains. “Whether we’re boaters or not, we treat clients as we would want to be treated. That approach builds long-term trust.”
Watching Pantaenius UK grow from a handful of employees to a thriving team across Plymouth and Southampton fills her with pride.
Passing on knowledge to new colleagues and seeing them flourish is one of the most rewarding parts of my role.
The Pantaenius UK Ethos: People First, Always
The stories of Leigh, Deborah and Fiona reflect a company culture that values people above all - both clients and staff. Their decades of dedication highlight an organisation where a client first approach, deep industry knowledge and personal connection go hand in hand.
As Pantaenius UK celebrates 35 years, it’s clear that its greatest strength lies not just in policies or products, but in the people who bring those values to life every day. The commitment of these long-serving team members - and those who follow in their footsteps - ensures Pantaenius UK remains a trusted partner to boaters for many years to come.
