Yacht Crew Medical Insurance
If you are employing paid crew on your yacht, you will need to give thought to some further insurances to protect them, and to protect yourself against claims they may make against you. If you have paid crew, you could be deemed an employer and, as such, will have obligations and potential liabilities as an employer.
Do I need Crew Medical Insurance?
The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), which came into force in 2013 sets out the rights of seafarers and the responsibilities of their employers. Part of your responsibility as an employer of paid yacht crew is, in line with the requirements of the Maritime Labour Convention, to cover those costs and expenses which arise out of your duty to provide good working conditions. This should include the provision of medical care, repatriation etc which are not predictable and which are the result of an event which is outside your control together with those costs and expenses which are predictable for example, routine medical and/or dental examinations or treatments.
Pantaenius offers a comprehensive range of insurance solutions for those yacht owners who employ a paid crew including a dedicated Crew Medical Insurance policy designed for employed crew requiring international health insurance.
